Behavioral Activation in the Treatment of Depression: A Systematic Review of Clinical Trials

Abstract

Objective: Behavioral Activation (BA) is a therapeutic strategy of great clinical relevance. The present study aimed to analyze and synthesize the available evidence on the effectiveness of this therapeutic intervention for the treatment of depression. Methods: The present study constitutes a systematic review of randomized and open clinical trials (including some pilot studies). The search for articles was carried out in PubMed, Google Scholar and Science.gov databases. Results: Twelve articles made up the sample of this study. Results have consistently demonstrated positive results in the effectiveness of Behavioral Activation in the treatment of depression. Conclusions: The approach offers a complementary or substitute alternative to traditional therapies. Future studies may deepen our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of Behavioral Activation and refine it to meet the specific needs of different patient groups.
