Abstract

 

The main objective of this research was to comprehend the factors that have the most impact on the incidence of mental disorders among aircrew. As for the specific objectives, they encompassed investigating what are the main factors that contribute to the incidence of mental disorders among aircrew; pointing out which mental disorders are most incident in the category and understanding how psychology can contribute in the field of civil aviation. Regarding the methodology, a qualitative literature review was conducted. Data analysis involved a review of the current Brazilian legislation (Law 13.375 of August 28, 2017, Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulations, and their Supplementary Instructions) as well as national and international literature reviews obtained from databases such as Scielo, PubMed e Brazilian National Union of Aircrew, covering the period between 1993 and 2023. The results indicate that mental disorders are a growing concern in civil aviation. Risk factors include stressful working conditions, demanding lifestyles, and institutional pressures. The conclusions of this study suggest that due to the physical and psychological demands of the profession, aircrew are particularly susceptible to these disorders.
