Abstract

Objective: To verify in the literature whether there is a higher hemispheric incidence of cerebrovascular accident - CVA and to know the speech therapy rehabilitation programs described for this population and their effectiveness. Method: A search was carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), using as inclusion criteria articles published in Brazilian Portuguese and English, in the last 05 years, full text with accessible link to the content. Results: Nine articles were included in the systematic review, distributed for analysis in a document form following the recommendations of the PRISMA checklist, with 5 studies (55.5%) being clinical studies, 2 (22.2%) literature reviews and 2 (22, 2%) case studies. In general, the articles (100%) pointed out the importance and effectiveness of early treatment with a focus on speech therapy intervention for a better quality of life for patients with Aphasia. Conclusion: There is a higher incidence of stroke in HE due to the higher number of dominance in the population; recurrence of citation of the MIT protocol; indication of initiation of therapy up to 14 days after stroke and greater efficacy for frequent therapies as opposed to longer sessions.
