Abstract

Aim: The aim of this literature review was to investigate impacts of unilateral hearing loss (UHL) on language and learning, occurring in childhood. Methods: Review of scientific production in the databases: BVS, EBSCO, Lilacs, Pubmed, and SciElo between 2010 and 2022. Results: Nine scientific publications were found compatible with the proposed issue showing that UHL is associated with negative effects on language and speech, vocabulary, cognitive function, learning, literacy, communication, social and behavioral skills. Conclusion: Unilateral hearing loss is related to high risk of delayed development of speech and language. Phonological deficits and poor performance in social skills, attention and cognitive functions can also cause difficulties for these school-age children.
