Abstract

Active listening and empathy are fundamental in the health professional and
patient relationship. Studies show that success or failure in the care process,
with regard to adherence to professional recommendations and clinical
results, patient satisfaction and commitment to treatment, quality of
information collected, honesty in communication, among others, can be
directly related to these skills, which can be developed throughout the
professional training in health. This article, based on the concepts of active
listening and empathy, will address the connection between them and their
importance in the care process.
