Abstract

Agarose gels are widely used to perform electrophoresis of nucleic acids, both for teaching purposes, and for scientific research, diagnostic analysis and clinical research. This study examined the efficiency of agar gel for electrophoretic experiments with genomic DNA samples, plasmid DNA, PCR and DNA molecular marker, compared to agarose gel at 1%. For comparative analysis was performed using standard procedure electrophoresis of nucleic acids using samples with different sources of DNA, the two types of gel. It was evident similarity and correspondence in the DNA distance migrated, DNA integrity and resolution of band with no change in image quality. The use of gels consisting of agar-agar is efficient in comparison to agarose gel commonly used and lowest cost.
