Abstract

The climacteric can bring symptoms that affect women's quality of life and well-being. Foot
reflexology, an integrative practice that uses pressure on specific points on the feet to
stimulate organs and promote bodily balance, has shown efficacy in reducing these
symptoms. Foot reflexology is an ancient technique, recorded in various cultures, that
promotes health and well-being by stimulating reflex zones in the feet. The objective of the
present research was to ascertain the benefits of applying foot reflexology as an integrative
complementary therapy in promoting the health of women during the climacteric period. The
research methodology consisted of a review study that involved a broad search in
databases such as SciELO, PubMed, and Cochrane Library. The results found indicate that
foot reflexology has been effective in reducing hot flashes, insomnia, and anxiety,
contributing to an improved quality of life during the climacteric. The findings also highlight
the importance of the National Health Promotion Policy (PNPS) and the National Policy of
Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC), which encourage the inclusion of
complementary therapies in the Unified Health System (SUS). Foot reflexology is an
effective and safe complementary therapy for women in the climacteric, contributing to
health promotion, reducing symptoms, and improving quality of life. The integration of these
practices into the SUS reflects a significant advancement in promoting a more holistic
approach to public health.
