Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: For an adequate vocal production it is necessary that the structures of the peripheral and central auditory system are functioning properly, thus having a good auditory perception, involving the analysis and the understanding of the sound stimulus. Objective: To investigate the knowledge of singing teachers about the relationship between auditory perception and vocal production for the improvement of the sung voice. Method: 50 singing teachers who teach in the city of São Paulo participated. All answered a questionnaire sent digitally, with questions relevant to the subject, after the acceptance of the Informed Consent Form. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively, with a descriptive character. Results: In this study, it was observed that teachers are aware that an alteration of hearing perception can result in difficulty in singing. They understand that auditory and vocal abilities are related to the perception of the acoustic contours of a given melody and its melodic variations. About the work of the speech therapist in the training of auditory skills, 23 teachers (46%) are unaware of the performance of this professional. Conclusion: The singing teachers have knowledge about the relationship between auditory perception and vocal production, but there was a lack of knowledge about the speech therapist’s performance in the auditory skills.
