Abstract

Feline mammary hyperplasia is a condition characterized by a non-neoplastic proliferation disorder of the parenchyma and mammary stroma of females, usually young, pregnant, cycling or who have been submitted to contraceptive application. Aglepristone is a progesterone receptor blocker that was developed as an abortive drug. More recently, it has been used in the treatment of feline mammary hyperplasia. In this report is described the treatment of the in four patients, using the drug at a dose of 10mg/kg subcutaneously once a day for five consecutive days. Supportive treatment was instituted in all queens and ovariohysterectomy was performed in two patients. The results obtained with the use of aglepristone were satisfactory. Such therapy can be an alternative to mastectomy and castration, mainly in animals of high reproductive value in which the loss of fertility is not desired.
