Abstract

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a rare, chronic, autoimmune rheumatic disease. It affects the axial skeleton and sacroiliac joints. The present study aimed to evaluate the HLA-B27 antigen and its relation with Ankylosing Spondylitis. The results showed that the HLA-B27 gene is related to AS due to its high degree of genetic polymorphism, as well as the discovery of genetic variants related to the development of this pathology. Finally, it can be concluded that with the discovery of the mechanism of HLA-B27 in AS and the new genes discovered, it is possible to think of new and better forms of treatment for patients with this pathology.
