Hearing alterations after cerebrovascular accident (CVA): An integrative review

Abstract

Objective: To investigate through a literature research, the hearing alterations cited as sequelae after cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Methodology: Integrative literature review, with the research question “What does the literature bring about hearing disorders related to stroke?”. Survey of scientific articles in the Scielo Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases and the National library of Medicine National Institutes Health (PubMed), using the descriptors in health sciences (DeCS/MeSH), “Hearing”, “auditory of perception”, “stroke”, “Audição”, “percepção auditiva” e “AVC”. Results: Review composed of a total of 5 articles, in which 80% revealed auditory alterations related to central auditory processing and 20% revealed peripheral auditory alteration, classified as sensorineural hearing loss. Conclusion: hearing disorders are cited in the literature as sequelae resulting from stroke. Among the hearing disorders, there is greater reference to those related to the processing of auditory information by the central auditory nervous system.
