Abstract

The platelet count is an important data within a blood count, because a large increase or decrease in their values can cause serious problems to the patient. The methods for obtaining these data vary between the Fonio method and the automation method, both are very different, both in their preparation and the amount of factors that can influence the results, however, despite their differences, both use the same reference values. Peripheral blood samples from 31 healthy individuals vacuum tubes were collected with EDTA anticoagulant for fonio method, were made blood smears of the samples, which were then stained and examined by microscope for the achievement of platelet count; automated method for counting was performed using the Wiener Counter unit 19 by the impedance technique. Given the difference between the methods studied, it was observed that the results can lead to different clinical interpretations depending on the methodology used, due to changes with greater clinical significance are present in Fonio method requires more rigor in scores obtained by even, so that the analyzes are the most reliable possible in relation to the patient's condition. The two methodologies studied are different, so the results are not interchangeable between them.
