Prevalência de tendinopatia de calcâneo e sua associação com a obesidade
Abstract
The Achilles tendon, despite being one of the largest and strongest tendons in the human body, is one of the most common to rupture and injure. Overweight and obesity have a strong relationship with pain and tendinopathy of the lower limbs. This study aimed to verify the prevalence of Achilles tendinopathy in overweight and obese adult patients, as well as the associated factors. The study had a quantitative observational approach. The population consisted of 400 patients from two orthopedic clinics, treated from November 2023 to May 2024, residing in the city of Cianorte - PR and the sample was non-probabilistic and for convenience, totaling 400 patients. The independent variable researched was the diagnosis of tendinopathy and the main covariates were gender, the presence of obesity or overweight and the practice of physical activity. Despite the higher prevalence of this injury in females, in obese patients and in those who do not practice physical activity, it was observed that there was no statistically significant association between tendinopathy and these variables (p>0.05). Despite the higher prevalence of tendinopathy in females (73.91%), in obese patients (56.52%) and in those who do not practice physical activity (50.25%), there was no statistically significant association between the injury and these variables (p>0.05). Therefore, it is concluded that in the sample studied, sex, obesity and the practice of physical activity are not risk factors for the development of Achilles tendinopathy.
