Abstract

ABSTRACT

Breast cancer can develop in both men and women, with women being the most common. According to estimates for a three-year period, 2023 to 2025, there are an estimated 73,610 new cases in Brazil. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for a good prognosis and reduction of breast cancer mortality. Mammography is considered the gold standard in the early detection of breast cancer, but with technological advances, Digital Mammary Tomosynthesis has emerged. Through a literature review, based on articles in Portuguese and English, the aim of this article is to present this new technology and its main characteristics. It can be concluded that tomosynthesis is a technology that presents great details, without excessive layer overlapping, making image analysis easier. The use of breast tomosynthesis is expanding, but there is no doubt that its application will bring many benefits, making diagnosis easier.
