SUSTAINABILITY VERSUS CAPITALISM OR SUSTAINABLE CAPITALISM? A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF SECULAR TREND
Keywords:
Sustainability, Capitalist system, Antagonism x conciliation.Abstract
In the face of current environmental and social crises, sustainability, based on an environmentally correct, socially just and economically viable life, appears as a solution that demands transformations. However, considering the current capitalist system based on the principles of class division, private property, and the pursuit of constant growth and accumulation, there remain questions about its ability to acquire sustainable concepts. Due to this, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between sustainability and capitalism, understanding whether they consist of antagonistic or can be reconciled factors. Therefore, a systematic review in the databases of the Portal of Periodicals of Capes and Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) was carried out in order to obtain the secular trend of the studies in relation to the theme. The results showed 12 articles that met the established objectives, which, with the exception of one study, tend to the need for a total rupture of the capitalist system due to the impossibility of conciliation with the concept of sustainability, pointing out new directions for a sustainable society.  Â
